Kalon Junious Takes Home Gridiron Award for 2009 Special Teams Player of the Year
Congratulations to Kalon Junious for his spectacular 103 yard kickoff return against Klein Oak earning him the 2009 Gridiron Award for Special Teams Player of the Year. Senior linebacker Cameron Nwosu and Sophomore quarterback Matt Davis were also nominated for 5A defensive and 5A offensive Player of the Year awards. Watch Kalon in the awards video below. Eagles Fly By Lobos - September 4, 2009
Another week. Another total team effort. Another team record for points scored, and most importantly another victory.
On Friday September 4th, the Golden Eagle varsity football team beat Langham Creek by a score of 60-35, moving their season record to 2-0. The offense was paced by Senior Running Back Corey Idlebird who had 191 total yards and 3 touchdowns. Sophomore Quarterback Matt Davis contributed by throwing 2 touchdowns and rushing for another, while racking up over 200 yards of total offense.
Defensive Backs Kavon Cobb, Adrian Bennett, Dimitri Brittman all recorded interceptions against the Langham Creek. The Golden Eagle defense also scored its first touchdown of the season as Senior Linebacker Dominique McDonald returned a Lobo fumble to the house.
Senior Kaylon Junious also contributed to the scoring onslaught by returning a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Senior Damian Payne continued to show his versatility by putting up over 100 all-purpose (rushing+receiving+return) yards, scoring a touchdown and grabbing an interception.
On Friday, September 11th, the Eagles will take on the 2-0 Aldine Mustangs at Klein Memorial Stadium.
Klein Forest Crushes Carter - August 29, 2009
On Saturday, your Klein Forest Golden Eagles participated in the South Texas Football Classic and beat the Dallas Carter Cowboys by a score of 51-28. The 51 points was a school record for most points scored in a single game.
The Cowboys wore their "Red Storm" uniforms from the movie Friday Night Lights, but the Eagles decided to make their own movie filled with highlight plays. The KF scoring attack was led by quarterback Matt Davis who threw 3 touchdown passes and ran for another. Senior Damian Payne also had a big day, scoring touchdowns rushing, receiving and on an 82 yard punt return. The Golden Eagle defense was led by Senior Linebacker Cameron Nwosu (Na-wa-su) who led the way with 9 total tackles, along Defensive Ends Josh Ener and Simon Morgan who each forced fumbles.
The Golden Eagles would like to thank the band, cheerleaders, golddusters and fans that made the trip to San Benito for the wonderful support that they provided.

Golden Eagles One Step Away

The Klein Forest Golden Eagles moved to within one victory of clinching a playoff spot with last week's 31-17 victory over rival Klein. The win moved the Golden Eagles to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in District 13-5A. "It was a good win for us," said Klein Forest head coach Kenny Hammock. "From top to bottom, I think this is as close as the league has ever been."
Klein Forest needs a victory over Tomball on Friday to clinch a playoff spot. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Klein Memorial Stadium.
"I told our kids right after the game (with Klein) to beware of Tomball,“ Hammock said. “Then, I get in my truck and find out they won."
Tomball knocked off Dekaney 29-28 last week to improve to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in District 13-5A play. The Cougars lost 22-20 in their district opener or they also would be right in the thick of the playoff hunt.
"This district is really something," Hammock said. "I don't know what it is. Klein Collins has clinched a playoff spot, but the other three spots are up for grabs."
Klein Collins is 5-0 in the league, followed by Dekaney and Klein Forest at 3-2, Klein Oak and Klein at 2-3 and Spring and Tomball at 1-4.
"We have to approach our last two games like they are do-or-die games,“ Hammock said. “We knew we had to win (against Klein) or it was going to be a math game. We don't want to count on other people (to help us get in the playoffs)."
Klein Forest sophomore quarterback Matt Davis has established himself as one of the best players in the Houston area. Davis compiled more than 250 yards of total offense in last week's 31-17 win over Klein.
"There is no telling how good he is going to be," Hammock said. "It depends on how much more he grows. Right now, he is just a real good athlete."
Cory Idlebird also has established himself as one of the top running backs in the league. He had 178 yards rushing in the win over Klein. "Toward the end of the game, he found a couple of holes and then right over the safety," Hammock said. "He had a great game last week."
After Tomball, Klein Forest will end the regular season against Klein Collins. If Collins were to lose to Dekaney tonight, that game could be for a share of the conference title.
"In this district, anything can happen," Hammock said. "Right now, we are right in the thick of it. That is all you can ask for."
Klein Forest had six starters out in its loss to Dekaney. The Golden Eagles also lost a tough game to Westfield. "We could be undefeated right now," Hammock said. "We also have won a couple of close games. All the teams are very close."
Klein Forest Rolls Past Dallas Carter Eagles

SAN BENITO — There's something about the Rio Grande Valley that Kenny Hammock's really starting to like.
The Klein Forest head coach hasn't made too many visits to deep South Texas. But the few have been memorable. Hammock played in the Palm Bowl in 1981 and 1982 as his Southwest Texas State Bobcats — now Texas State — won the Division II National Championship.
In his latest visit, Hammock's Klein Forest Golden Eagles drubbed the Class 4A eighth-ranked Dallas Carter Cowboys 51-28 on Saturday at Bobby Morrow Stadium in the South Texas Football Classic.
"The Valley's been very good to Kenny Hammock," he said. "I told our guys to be ready to play five quarters of football. We knew they'd be bigger than us. So we had to get after them quick."
Klein Forest (1-0) jumped on Carter early. Eagles' QB Matt Davis scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 39-yard dash. Davis ran in the two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.
Davis was the hero finishing with 147 yards passing and three touchdowns, while completing five of 10 pass attempts. Davis also rushed for 117 yards and one TD on 12 carries.
Damian Payne provided a little something for the highlight reel, scoring on a 92-yard punt return with 3:15 left in the first quarter.
On the return, Payne fielded the punt and ran backwards a few yards before breaking several tackles and weaving his way upfield for the touchdown. Payne added another score with 9:56 left in the second quarter giving Klein a surprising 21-0 lead at that point. Klein's defense was superb, forcing four fumbles.
After killing Carter with his feet, Davis took to the air, tossing a 59-yard scoring strike to Payne (two catches, 88 yards) with 7:28 left in the half.
He then threw a 20-yarder to Isaiah Cobb with 3: 40 left for the 35-7 halftime lead. "I told the kids this would be a good chance to help build up our program," Hammock said.
"Everyone already knows who Dallas Carter is and they have an established tradition. I told them we needed to step up to the challenge and I think we did." Aug. 29, 2009, 7:28PM
